When the folks at Budget Living magazine called to see if I'd be up for decorating a tiny little house for an upcoming issue, (one built entirely inside the Mall of America, no less!), I jumped at the chance— even after I learned that the fund for furnishings was filled with minimal money. Turns out the home was to be raffled off to benefit breast cancer research and everything in it would be donated by Ikea and EBay. I managed to whip up a sweet little wonder, and proved that even the most mass market goods look good when paired with touches that deliver personality, uniqueness and style. Total cost for the mini miracle, including the value of the donated items? Less than $5,000.
